Molecular Staging

Molecular Staging is addressing this demand with a portfolio of products and services based on technologies that are transforming the detection and measurement of both proteins and nucleic acids.

  • images56Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Oviedo, Carlos Lopez Otín, is an internationally renowned scientist. In his lab have done outstanding work that opened the door to important research avenues for diseases like cancer, arthritis or many inherited diseases, some of them discovered by his team in the Asturian capital. Otín Lopez earned his doctorate at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1984 and since 1987 is part of the Faculty of Medicine of Oviedo, where he heads a group of basic research in molecular biology. • apoptotic-mechanisms-of-granzymes-in-ctl-lysisCytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) eliminate virus-infected tumor cells or alloantigen through a lyric mechanism, which involves the secretion of a cytoplasmic granules containing cytotoxic proteins, perforin and granzymes, of which the two most important are granzyme A and granzyme B. Perforin interacts with cell membranes and allows the access of granzymes into the target cell, inducing cell death by apoptosis. Read the rest of this entry »

  • memory-structure-and-dynamics-in-the-dna-fiberBiochemistry as a science, is making a trip from physiological conditions to extreme testing environments, in which the behavioral rules derived from the study of hydrated systems may not be valid. One example is DNA chips, popular in genomic studies, based on the assumption (not proven) that the structure of DNA and pattern recognition are equal when the molecule is Now Go in aqueous solution or bound to a cationic membrane . Proteomics, an emerging area of research revolves around the use of mass spectroscopy apparatus, in which the macromolecules are injected into the gas phase at high pressures and temperatures.
